Taking family portraits can be a real task, it can test your patience, especially when you have little ones, sometimes I think it is no different with the older kids. Here at the Joyful lens I want to make your life easier, I am here to make sure we have a great time and create timeless portraits. Today I am going to talk about preparing for your session so that you have the tools to look forward to a wonderful portrait experience once you book your session with me.
First thing's first: Your Style and Concept Consultation
Before we schedule a session we will consult over zoom or over the phone to get to know you better before we meet in person. The purpose of this conversation we are going to have will tell me what your vision is for your portrait session, we will discuss things like date, time, location, clothing and artwork you are interested in ( prints, wall art, albums). Once our consultation is complete will be all set to meet and I will get ready to photograph your beautiful family.
Next : Coordinating Your Outfits
After our consultation and my guidance you will be able to pick out and coordinate your clothing. Since we are photographing outside we want to:
Compliment our surroundings by selecting 1-2 bright colors pairing along with neutrals and wearing fitted clothing
Choosing 1-2 bright colors that are complimentary to your skin tone will work great with neutrals that include black, grey, beige, navy or denim. Please wear fitted clothing to your session, I understand sometimes we fight ourselves out of wearing certain items ( dresses, pants, skirts, collared shirts) and ultimately cancelling the session out of frustration, but we can fix your trouble areas! With my guidance posing you, I will create flattering portraits you will absolutely love.
On-location surroundings that we can travel to could be:
Brooklyn Bridge - Bethesda Terrace- Rockefeller Center - Dumbo- Chinatown
Then: The Day Before Your Session
Self-care is the best care for you and your family. Drink plenty of water, you want to be hydrated for your session. In addition, getting a good night's rest before your session is essential, allow an earlier bedtime if necessary, waking up full of energy is what we need to create amazing portraits because when you feel good you look good!
Lastly: The Day of Your Session
Continue to stay hydrated, plenty of water alongside a great breakfast to keep you full and happy. Lastly, be yourself on this day, and everyday, allow me to create authentic portraits allowing your personality and emotion to shine! I will prompt you and I will just capture you in your natural element like playing with the kids, laughing, having real moments.
